Pregnancy termination and the law - Termination of Pregnancy Act 2018

Protest

Her body her choiceIn October 2018, the Queensland government passed a Bill called the Termination of pregnancy Act 2018  that enables the reasonable and safe access by women to terminations of pregnancy and to regulate the conduct of registered health practitioners in relation to terminations.

The whole act can be accessed here https://www.legislation.qld.gov.au/view/whole/pdf/asmade/act-2018-023 but the main takeaways are noted below

In QLD, It is 100% legal for any woman to have a termination of pregnancy for any reason that she chooses on request by a medical practitioner up to 22 weeks gestation.

“A medical practitioner may perform a termination on a woman who is not more than 22 weeks pregnant. “                “Despite any other Act, a woman who consents to, assists in, or performs a termination on herself does not commit an offence”
