What is a Surgical Termination?

A surgical termination is a very quick and safe in-clinic procedure in which a pregnancy is evacuated from the uterus. This procedure is 99% successful and only requires one visit to the facility.surgical rosie

Depending on the gestation (number of weeks since most recent period) of the pregnancy a surgical termination will occur one of two similar ways. These are

  • Suction curettage

Or

  • Dilation and evacuation

A small dose of general anaesthetic is given to patients so they are asleep for the duration of the procedure and will not feel any discomfort.

Typically, a patient can expect to be in the facility for 2-4 hours on the day and should be able to resume regular activities after 24 hours.

Greenslopes day surgery offers surgical terminations for patients between 5-16 weeks gestation. We can also perform cervical screening tests (CST) and STI testing as well as discounted contraceptive device insertion such as Mirena ®, Copper IUD or Implanon ®
